Itinerary Depart from the wharf and cruise under the bridges and into the Jervois basin to see the mixture of new developments and old wharves and buildings. View images on a large plasma screen of the area as it was 100 years ago and make your own comparisons as your captain explains the changing usages of the area. As we cruise past the current wharves and buildings and into the North Arm watch for dolphins. At the Ships Graveyard our boat can stand in close to the wrecks to give you a close up perspective not otherwise available as the captain provides you with information about some of the more interesting of the 22 ships here. A delicious lunch of cold meats and salads is served with tea or coffee as we cruise up through the navigation beacons to St. Kilda. As we pass extensive tidal flats and seagrass areas teeming with birdlife our captain will talk about some of these birds and about the pod of dolphins that call the Port River home. Watch out for them during the cruise as they usually make at least one appearance, sometimes to play in the wake, sometimes just cruising past. Arriving via a narrow channel we disembark near the marina at St Kilda for the Mangrove Trail Interpretative Centre and Boardwalk. This self guided walk winds amongst the mangroves, tidal flats and channels of the Barker Inlet Aquatic Reserve, with interpretative signage along the way to explain what you are seeing. After about an hour for this walk we re-board the boat and cruise back to Broad Creek (tide permitting) to see the old munitions wharf and railway tracks or into the Angus Inlet past the marinas to the Torrens Island Power Station In Angus Inlet watch for the dolphins again. Afternoon tea is served as we cruise back into the main Port Adelaide wharf area to end the cruise. |
